On the 12th May 2012, at 22 Taylors lane, at 2pm my partner and I got hitched!

It was the most beautiful day of my life!  My sisters and I awoke that morning to Top Shop pastries and coffees and perched ourselves on the balcony in the morning sunlight.  It was the perfect start to a perfect day.  I was just so so happy at that moment, knowing that in a few hours I’d be getting married to my man, Dougall!

We eventually settled in to hair and make up by my twin sister Luciana, and  one by one we started to feel like bohemian princesses!  We put on our dresses which i designed, and got ready to walk down the ‘aisle’.

I was so calm and excited and happy to walk out there and meet my husband! We are in this together! This life long commitment of family, love, hopes and dreams, tears, happiness and adventures!

After the ceremony we frolicked around the tee-pee, listened to flamenco music, ate, drank, talked, sang and did lots of dancing to old classic hits!!  It was the most magical day ever!

Our honeymoon started the next day at a beach-house in Belongil.  The most stunning weather saw us through the week, and we were able to enjoy the sunrise everyday over coffee, and then enjoy the sun setting with a glass of red in hands!  It was the most perfect week of my life.

I was very blessed to have Beck Rocchi on board with photography as she captured the day beautifully!  And then blessed again to have been given a wedding film as a wedding gift by Lizzy and my brother in law Johnny Abegg!

It seemed so many of my wedding gifts were labours of love with Luciana doing all our hair and makeup as her gift!! I felt like the luckiest girl alive!

And finally, thank you to Dougall and our little boy Texas for being so amazing.
I love my lil’ family!!!

  52. I can't even describe to you how PERFECT this wedding is to me. Everything I would ever want in my life, captured in a few beautiful images. You all radiate love and positivity, and this is enhanced by the gorgeous dresses, shirts, accessories, setting, photography and so on. I'm so happy for you. Elle X

    3. absolutely. what an embarrassment to appropriate another culture for your own enjoyment and then deny there is any theme there at all.
      its better to own the fact you made an ignorant, uneducated mistake and inform yourself so in the future you don't make it again. if you can't see what is wrong with a white person (and a lot of their white friends) throwing “what is not to be called a tribal/navajo themed wedding” after the damage that colonisation has done to these cultures, then i think you need to step back and reassess.

  59. It's so cute that you incorporated traditions and symbols of your Native American ancestry into your wedding. Oh wait, sorry? You're 100% white? Yeah, I thought so. I know that you think your wedding is a-ok and you “didn't hurt anyone!” but trust me…one day, someone will tell you to your face that your wedding is gross and wrong. Your grandchildren will cringe when they see your wedding photographs; history will shame you.

    2. I didn't leave the above comment- but I do validate “anonymous's” anger. There was an episode of ANTM this last cycle that had the contestants depict famous women of their culture- a native american was chosen to depict Pocahontas. She did so by depicting the actual story (not disney) and when the judges didn't like the photos, they said ” you're native american, this should have been easy for you”. Had they said the same thing about the black contestant depicting Michelle Obama- sh*t would have hit the fan- it would have made international news! So it begs the question… why are people allowed to get away with exploiting my heritage? why is it ok to be racist and ignorant towards my people? Its awful that this dialogue was spawned by such an important event as your wedding- but its an important dialogue nonetheless. For example, it is deeply offensive to wear a headdress that was not authorized by a recognized leader for you to wear. Typically, an elder must give you permission. Headdresses used to be worn during special occasions by strong leaders (usually warriors), this is considered an honour. Women have little to do with making or wearing headdresses traditionally. By wearing it as an accessory, you are devaluing what an honor it is to wear one.

    1. um…. this is not a themed wedding. there are some feathers because she likes feathers, there are dreamcatchers which she made because she loves the symbolism… and a teepee because there was a teepee at the house… get over yourself.

So basically what these people above are saying is that if you're not Native American or of Romani descent, you're not allowed to wear feathers in your hair, have a teepee in your garden, or have dreamcatchers on your porch? That's quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. What happened to celebrating the beauty of other cultures? I think your wedding is gorgeous Spelly and I love that you love these beautiful cultural symbols even though you're '100% White'. Rock on gorgeous!
